Jonathan Ford Recognized as a "New Face of Engineering"
Jonathan Ford, PE, a Project Engineer for Nitsch Engineering, a Boston-based civil engineering, land surveying, traffic engineering, and planning firm, was recently recognized by the American Consulting Engineers Council (ACEC) as one of the "New Faces of Engineering, 2005." ACEC's New Faces of Engineering spotlights young engineers who have worked in the field from two to five years and have demonstrated outstanding abilities in their chosen disciplines.
Jon has worked for Nitsch Engineering (Nitsch Engineering) for the past three years, after working in Chicago, IL as a project engineer for a civil/site engineering design firm that permitted large residential and commercial projects. As Project Engineer at Nitsch Engineering, Jon designs utilities, stormwater management systems, and site layout and grading for public and private construction projects with a focus on sustainable site development strategies.
In addition to his project responsibilities, Jon co-founded the New England Chapter of the Congress for the New Urbanism, which advocates mixed-use, context sensitive, pedestrian-oriented urban design that results in more stable, environmentally sustainable, communities. He is currently leading an initiative to document the civil engineering benefits of New Urbanist design, which will be used in an interdisciplinary program to educate civil engineers about their potential impact on effective community design, or "placemaking."
