Civil Engineering

Nitsch Engineering's professional engineers coordinate their efforts with architects, landscape architects, and owners to provide comprehensive solutions to site-development issues. By addressing drainage, grading, site utility, and permitting issues in the initial stages of the design process, we proactively identify and resolve potential problems before they become critical issues.

Site/Utility Design
Nitsch Engineering prides itself on an integrated, collaborative approach to site design. Functional, permittable, and attractive building sites require close coordination with the design team and the owner. Nitsch Engineering is responsible for the design of parking, roadways, walkways, and site features within the project site. Stormwater management, grading, and drainage are engineered to blend into the aesthetics of the project.

Sustainable Design
Designing environmentally friendly sites is "natural" for Nitsch Engineering. Nitsch Engineering's civil engineers have been practicing sustainable design for years, long before the term became fashionable. Led by our in-house LEED Accredited Professional, Nitsch Engineering is prepared to assist with all aspects of building projects, and to pursue LEED certification for your project. Nitsch Engineering's expertise includes design of creative drainage solutions with heavy emphasis on re-establishing natural systems including vegetated wetlands, filter swales, biofiltration areas, and restoring stream channels.

Roadway Design
Nitsch Engineering is prequalified by MassHighway for intermediate roadway design, transportation planning, wetlands-delineation assessment, public participation, and hydraulics/hydrology. We have worked on a number of roadway and highway projects throughout Massachusetts.

Expert Witness Services
Nitsch Engineering often provides expert witness services in cases involving land development issues. Senior Nitsch Engineering personnel assist clients in "making their case" by testifying before judges, juries, and regulatory agencies. We address engineering issues pertaining to land value, land transfer issues, regulatory/permitting concerns, engineering design, and a variety of related issues.

Permitting
Nitsch Engineering understands both the technical and scheduling challenges of the site permitting process. We have extensive experience with local Conservation Commission and Planning Board permitting, the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) approval process, local utility permitting (particularly with the Boston Water & Sewer Commission), and the Department of Environmental Protection Chapter 91 and Sewer Extension permitting. Our experience can save our clients time and aggravation by facilitating timely approval processes.
